The Griggstown Historic District covers a five mile stretch of Canal Road and 68 principle structures including the Bridgetender's station and barracks associated with the canal era.

Troops marched through the Rocky Hill village three times during the Revolutionary War – in 1777, 1778 and
1781. The tiny village of Rocky Hill also felt the canal boom from the 1830s to 1929 when mills, a rubber factory,
general stores, and other small businesses flourished west of the canal. The architectural character of Rocky Hill stems from its beginnings in the Colonial

Bridgetender's House at Blackwell's Mill
The Bridgetender's canal house historic site lies at Blackwell's Mills along Canal Road. The site is an access point to the Six Mile Run Area as well as the canal, towpath and river. Many annual events are held at the canal house.

East Millstone Historic District
Among the many buildings part of the East Millstone Historic District, crossing the Millstone River into East Millstone, the first building one encounters is the Bridgetender's House, which was built circa
1831.
Another memorable historic structure, the Van Liew Homestead, is a fine example of eighteenth century Dutch architecture and dates back to 1752. The main building, now known as the Franklin
Inn, is currently operated by the Meadows Foundation as a used bookstore.
